The founder of Family Archive

Heritage is not stored - it is passed on.

I founded Family Archive to guide families how to preserve their history and pass it on with care.

My vision is a private, thoughtfully curated archive where photographs, letters, documents, recorded voices and treasured heirlooms retain both their place and their story. I work with families to create archives of their own, offering practical, personal ways to organize, safeguard and share what matters most.

At the heart of this work is a wish for future generations to know more than their ancestors’ names - to hear their voices, understand their lives and feel connected to the family story they carry forward.

My passion for family history led me to become a family archivist. It is work I approach with curiosity, care and a deep sense of responsibility. There is something powerful about uncovering a story, connecting its threads and recognizing something of yourself in the lives of those who came before you. These discoveries can deepen our sense of belonging and help us consider what we, in turn, wish to pass on.

I help each family find an approach that feels right for them, turning the wish to preserve their history into a thoughtful plan and strategy for its future.

The co-founder of Family Archive

Almost every family has a drawer: photographs with no names on the back, a letter in a hand no one can read any more, a voice that now lives only in memory. What is in that drawer is irreplaceable - and nobody is responsible for it. Family Archive is my answer to that drawer. I want the next generation to inherit not a box of fragments, but a story.

An archive is worth exactly as much as the trust placed in it. So it has to be private by design, structured enough to last for decades, and simple enough to be opened on an ordinary evening. Not a cloud drive, not a social feed - a family’s own house of memory, with a place for every document, photograph, voice and heirloom.

For more than twelve years I have worked in regulatory compliance and financial-crime prevention, as Chief Compliance Officer and board member of licensed European financial institutions. That work is about one thing: protecting what people entrust to you - through governance, security and discipline. Family Archive is built with the same discipline.

I write about opera, and opera taught me what a living archive is. An aria has kept the same notes for two hundred years, yet every voice that sings it makes it new. That is what I want for family stories: the record stays faithful, and each generation hears it anew.

Eleonora Butkutė

About us · Visionary

Eleonora
Butkutė (1931-2012)

Doctor of Chemistry from Viekšniai
The visionary behind Family Archive

Family Archive began with letters.

Eleonora Butkutė, Lina’s aunt, was the first person to write to Lina about the stories of their family. Based on her handwritten letters, the family tree of Lina’s mother’s family was restored.

That correspondence became a turning point. It shaped Lina’s vision of the family story, and her conviction that every generation needs at least one person to gather that story and pass it along.

Family Archive carries that conviction forward.

The visionary behind Family Archive

The family story, told slowly and written down.

Napoleonas Mumgaudis, Lina’s grandfather, was the first person on her father’s side to pass the family’s history along. He took his time telling stories, connecting the dots between events and different people.

So that the facts would stay in writing, he published his autobiography. He brought his family and relatives to the place his family came from, and carried his own father’s legacy forward through his hobbies.

In the early days, he was one of the visionaries of Family Archive. Family Archive carries his work forward.
